Solomon Peter Gbanie serves as the Acting Director of Technology and Information Management at the National Minerals Agency (NMA), where he leads the strategic direction of the agency’s ICT and data systems. With over a decade of experience in geospatial science, data analytics, and information management, Solomon joined the NMA in 2022 as Business Intelligence Manager. In this role, he founded the Business Intelligence Unit, significantly enhancing the agency’s approach to data-driven decision-making.

Solomon’s achievements include the design of the Community Development Management Information System (CoDMIS), a platform that provides critical insights into community development activities, corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, Diamond Area Community Development Fund (DACDF) disbursements, and mining surface rents. He has also spearheaded the development of a centralized enterprise database to integrate essential datasets on mining operations, environmental indicators, and production metrics.

Before joining the NMA, Solomon was a Senior Lecturer in Geography at the University of Sierra Leone, where he contributed to multiple international research initiatives, including a British Academy-funded project with the University of Bath on urban agriculture and a GCRF-funded project focused on the environmental sustainability of artisanal mining in Sierra Leone.

Solomon holds a BSc in Geography (First Class Honors) and a PGDE (Distinction) from the University of Sierra Leone, an MSc in Environmental Engineering from the China University of Geosciences, and a Ph.D. in Geography specializing in Remote Sensing and GIS from the University of New South Wales. He has also completed advanced training in Data Governance, ArcGIS Enterprise Administration, and Python Scripting for Geospatial Applications.

In his current role, Solomon directs NMA’s digital transformation initiatives, overseeing technology acquisition, data integration, and ICT policy development to ensure seamless support across all directorates and alignment with the agency’s objectives.
